Our longtime art society member Linda Hall will discuss how her theory of painting has evolved over the years. As a self-taught artist, she has purposely strived to maintain a style uniquely her own. She prefers to paint a variety of subjects from local landmarks to things of the past with a vintage flavor all her own. You will find her art on rotation hanging at local libraries, galleries, as well as other venues in the Southtowns. Her work has earned many awards including the 2015 Buffalo Garden Walk poster. Linda will talk about her love of acrylics, her process, and how to find ways to create with more passion in painting. She will include a fun interactive hands-on activity, so please bring a few colored pencils, watercolors, or any other simple supplies you like to use to create basic color and lines.
Meetings start promptly at 7 pm, but the doors will be open by 6:30 if you want to come early. In the event of inclement weather, please check our EAAS Facebook or website that day for the latest news or closings. Let’s get out this winter and enjoy being together any opportunity we can!

Join the fun of creating seasonal decorations this Thursday (Dec. 8) starting at 6:30 at the senior center with our members to make gifts to cheer the residents in Absolut Care of Aurora Park. President Susan Rudnicky will deliver the finished ornaments, to Absolut Care, before the December holidays! Refreshments will be served. A nice way to celebrate the holidays together and give to others.
This Thursday (11/10) we have artist George Grace visiting us! George is a self-described "technoluminist," heavily influenced by George Inness, Edward Hopper, Van Gogh, George Grace’s style is representational, combining the light and shapes that characterize our time with the evanescent colors and flowing shapes of nature. His niche is nightscapes, but he has also done portraits, Southwesterns, industrials, cityscapes, nature scenes, and a “Through the Rain-Blurred Windshield” series. His work runs the gamut from photoreal to impressionistic.
He began his career as a visual artist in 1976, when he bought his first camera. By 1981, he switched to painting with acrylic on canvas. His efforts were nearly immediately rewarded when one of his works was accepted into the Western New York Art Exhibition at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo, New York. In 1996, he decided to make artworks. He set two primary goals for the following five years: one, to get accepted to a national exhibition. His second goal was to get an exhibition in the Soho district of New York City. This took a little over two years, and he's had three exhibitions there since. In March 2002, he and his wife moved back to Buffalo. In 2003, he was accepted into the Buffalo Society of Artists and served four terms as president, enacting some of the most notable changes in its 130-year history, including the Video Archive Project and a collaborative book on the first 125 years of the BSA (the latter in progress). He has judged numerous exhibitions, including the Allentown Festival, and the West Seneca, East Aurora, Buffalo-Niagara and Hamburg Art Society art exhibitions. Meeting start promptly at 7 pm, so you may come in earlier (after 6:15) to socialize. We hope you will be our guest soon. This is a program you won't want to miss! For our Thursday October 13th Meeting, our demonstrator is Kurt Almond.
Kurt has lived in the heart of East Aurora since the 1950’s. He knew he wanted to be an artist since childhood. He taught Special Education for 30 years, primarily creative subjects such as photography, crafts, and art. Before his teaching career, he earned money commercially making carved wooden signs, screen printing shirts, painting advertising, and generally making whatever his clients wanted. He has experimented with many mediums, including airbrushing, instrument making, animation, and especially photography, but sketching has always been a part of his life. Kurt also plays a few genres of music, most often Irish traditional tunes. He usually plays, but is not limited to, Celtic harp and violin. He maintains a large collection of instruments from the World over. Lately he has helped to manage the long time East Aurora Portrait Group, arranging for their models and finances. This group meets every Friday afternoon, right here in the Senior Center. Everyone is invited to join us to draw or paint, or model for the group. This time Kurt will present examples of his portraits and quick sketches, and demonstrate both, by drawing as he explains his methods to the group. Some of his sketchbooks will be on display, and there will be a slideshow of his work. If you would like to sketch along, bring a few simple sketch supplies! East Aurora Art Society meets on the second Thursday of every month, September - June, 6:30-9:00 pm, at the Aurora Senior Center, 101 King Street at Oakwood, East Aurora. Like us on Facebook too! The meeting is open to the public and parking is free at the rear of the building. We are having a Meet and Greet on this special Thursday evening, Buffalo Bills Home Opener! Let’s visit early from 6:30 - 7:00 pm; bring items for the Treasure Table and Renew our Memberships 2022-2023. At the Program meeting 7 – 8 pm, sign up for the latest Fall Art Show Events, and have some good pregame cheer, while quick-sketching still life items in small groups.
Please bring one still-life item to draw, plus your sketchbook, pens & pencils. Maybe even wear your Bills gear (and Bills Colors!) There will be refreshments too! and... GO BILLS! It was a beautiful weekend for an outdoor show! A big THANK YOU to our artists, members, sponsors, and community. See you next year!

Buffalo artist, Carol Siracuse, will be the guest presenter at East Aurora Art Society’s June 9th meeting. Carol attended Harvard Graduate School of Design and Princeton. Her architectural career spans practice in Boston, Ithaca and her own Chautauqua firm. In 2001, she moved to Buffalo, NY. Carol retired as vice president at Cannon Design in 2010. Retirement opened the opportunity for her to work as a watermedia fine artist, in her own private studio, plein-aire or on her many travels.
Siracuse is a signature member and past president of Niagara Frontier Watercolor Society and also exhibits with Buffalo Society of Artists and Western New York Artists Group. Meibohm Fine Arts, in East Aurora, featured Carol Siracuse’ s work, with three other watercolor artists, in a recent show, Luminance, April 29-May 28, 2022.
